Women are leading the way when it comes to social networking.

They're significantly more likely to use Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media then men, according to a survey by the Internet telecommunications company Rebtel.

Men are more likely to use phones and voicemail to stay in the loop.

According to Rebtel's research, 68% of women use social media to stay in touch with their friends compared to only 54% of men; 60% of women use it to keep in touch with family, compared to only 42% of men.

Women are also more likely to use social networks to correspond with their colleagues -- 34% compared to just 22% of men.

"Our findings show that men tend to lag behind women when it comes to communicating with others through social media, which debunks other recent studies that suggest that men are more savvy networkers between the sexes," said Rebtel CEO Andreas Bernstrom.
